Are You in an Alcoholism Marriage?

Are you currently in an alcoholism marriage? This is a very serious social concern that destroys many families around the world. It can lead to physical, mental and sexual abuse. In addition, financial problems are likely to occur. It is a leading cause of divorce, especially in the United States. In most cases, one partner suffers from alcoholism. In rare cases, both partners are alcoholics.
If children are in the family then they always suffer whether it is one or both parents afflicted. A person that is addicted to alcohol is mentally and physically dependant on it. In addition, it is the symptoms of withdrawal are often as serious as the alcohol addiction symptoms. Anyone in an alcoholism marriage can attest to the stress and irrationality associated with it. If only one person is an alcoholic in an alcoholism marriage, then the other partner will obviously be under a tremendous amount of stress and unhappiness.
Only if you have been in this situation can you truly understand the severity of the situation. If you are in an alcoholism marriage then in order to save the marriage, counseling is one method to attempt to save it. Nothing will change in the marriage until the alcoholism has been reversed. This can take a long time, however it does require a serious commitment. Counseling is necessary because you cannot rationalize with an alcoholic.
Usually, the alcoholic blames someone else for the problem or does not even admit that there is a problem in the first place. An alcoholism marriage also will experience physical symptoms that will affect the couple's sex life. Reduced sexual drive and erectile dysfunction are quite common among male alcoholics. Other health issues affecting the problem drinker are heart disease, hypertension, cirrhosis and pancreatic issues.
These conditions can also lead to an increase in medical bills and thus causing more financial strain on the family. If you are in an alcoholism marriage then the first step to take is to go to an Al-Anon meeting. This is an excellent place to start as they deal with this problem on a daily basis.
You will get the help and advice that you desperately need in order to either save your marriage or re-gain your sanity. Most people have heard of Al-Anon. There are chapters all over the world and they have the experience and understanding to deal with an alcoholism marriage.
