Lomi Lomi Schools

Lomi Lomi Schools LOMI LOMI, an ancient healing art, is common practice among the Hawaiian natives. Under usual circumstances, a "tutu" (grandmother), or some other family member who is respected uses this artform. Lomi Lomi is a versatile form of massage, varying from family to family. During a lomi lomi massage, the recipient lies upon the floor or ground upon a hand-woven mat. Lomi lomi massage is done by hands-on therapy, using finger, palm and elbow touch. Lubricating oils such as kukui nut, macadamia nut and coconut are utilized as nutrional moisturizers throughout the lomi lomi massage.

"Walking the body," (or in Hawaiian - "A'e") is a type of massage where the therapist walks upon the receiver. Wooden staffs or poles are utilized to balance the lomi lomi massage therapist. In recent times, a "ceiling bar," (a bar attached to the ceiling), is used to balance the therapist.

Lomi lomi also involves baths, bone adjusting techniques and even religious methods to heal the patient. From fractures, dislocation and internal disorders on up to childbirth, lomi lomi is seemingly an ideal method of assisted treatment. Taught in conjunction with the ancient Hawaiian martial art of lua, lomi lomi is thought to be a rejuvenating massage, bringing restoration to the whole anatomy.
