AIDS - is the acronym for Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. AIDS is the most serious and last stage of HIV disease. AIDS is also one of the five-top leading causes of death in persons ages 25 to 44 in the US alone. AIDS attacks a person's immune system and allows the body to become vulnerable to many life-threatening cancers and infections.
AIDS can be transmitted through different means:
* Sexual Contact - anal, oral or vaginal
* Blood Contact - needle sharing or sometimes in blood transfusions
* From Mother to Child - pregnant women can transmit AIDS through shared blood circulation or through breast milk
Currently, there is no cure for AIDS, but several treatments are available that help delay the progression of AIDS for multiple years and can improve qualtiy of life.
