Aikido Practitioners

Aikido Practitioners
Aikido practitioners can teach others how to obtain peace and harmony within themselves by learning how to control energy, and release tension and anger. Practitioners can train individuals in the specific area of their choice, allowing them to progress to a level that will help them achieve their goals. Physical technique, etiquette, self defense, and more, can be learned through training with an Aikido practitioner.

What is Aikido

Aikido was founded in Japan, by Morihei Ueshiba in the late 1800s to early 1900s. Aikido is based on several styles of jujitsu, along with sword and spear fighting martial arts. Aikido focuses on using the opponent's energy to gain control of them. Rather than punching or kicking the opponent, great emphasis is put on motion and movement dynamics.

Aikido teaches two fundamental guidelines: Commitment to peaceful resolutions and commitment to self-improvement through Aikido training. Aikido offers many benefits:
From self-defense, to spiritual enlightenment, to physical health and peace of mind. Aikido, meaning "The Way of Harmony of the Spirit," is still emphasized today.

There are different styles of Aikido that individuals can train in. These include Aiki-Budo, Yoseikan, and Yoshikan, which are considered the old school ways. Aikikai, Shin-shin Toitsu Aikido, Tomiki-ryu, and Iwama-ryu are modern aikido ways. Training in Hakomi may be beneficial to those who choose to learn aikido.

There are various techniques that are designed to help individuals obtain an overall balance of energy and peace within. This form of martial arts can be used to not only obtain a healthy balance in life, but also for self defense. Training in yoga or pilates prior to this form of martial arts can help individuals obtain the flexibility and balance that are needed in Aikido.
