Biofeedback
A unique method, biofeedback, is a fundamental learning mechanism that helps an individual develop and monitor body processes that are no longer under voluntary control.
Through biofeedback, one can understand how to regulate his/her own blood flow, blood pressure, body temperature, brain waves, heart rate and other internal functions.
Under usual circumstances, the body utilizes the autonomic, or self-regulating portion of the nervous system to dictate anatomical functions automatically; with biofeedback, an individual relearns to use muscles that have been injured due to accidents, or other physical disabilities.
But how exactly does biofeedback actually work? Biofeedback enables persons to control specific functions by providing them with information on their anatomical processes.
How is this done? Biofeedback is moreover an ongoing treatment process whereby a person is connected to a machine that measures blood pressure on individual heartbeats. When pressure drops below a specific level, the biofeedback machine will sound off a tone. At this point, patients realize they have been successful in regulating their unique function. With repeated biofeedback practice, patients learn to adapt to their own functionability and learn how to regulate their blood pressure.
Biofeedback is used to treat patients suffering from many illnesses. Commonly, biofeedback is utilized in patients plagued with irregular heartbeats, high blood pressure, migraine and tension headache sufferers, persons with muscles spasms; and -- biofeedback is used to help persons control stress by regulating their own brain waves.
Biofeedback, often known as "instrumental conditioning," is an advanced form of educating one's self to help in self-healing.
