Chelation Therapy
What is CHELATION THERAPY? Chelation therapy is a therapeutic, chemical process whereby an amino acid is injected into the body for removal of heavy metals and/or minerals from the body. Chelation therapy (chelation meaning: to grab or to bind) is when the amino acid (injected into an individual's veins) grabs minerals like copper, iron, arsenic, etc and takes them from one's body. Chelation therapy is used for treatment of lead poisoning and other holistic therapies.
Chelation therapy is usually performed on in outpatient clinic or hospital. An intravenous line is administered and the amino acid is injected into the IV by a physician. Chelation therapy is also utilized for treatment of atherosclerosis and coronary artery disease. Chelation therapy, overall, acts as an antioxidant treatment as it removes metals that combine with LDL cholesterol. Chelation therapy has also been used to treat pain associated with inflammatory diseases such as arthritis, lupus and evern scleroderma.
Chelation therapy is not recommended for children, pregnant women and persons who may have heart or kidney failure. In low doses, chelation therapy appears to be safe. Always contact your physician or health care professional before seeking alternative or conventional medical treatments.
