Chi

CHI, more than just a word -- is a mindset, or way of thinking. Chi is instrumental to Chinese Martial Arts and Chinese medicine; as it is not merely an energy force, but moreover a concept. Chi is defined by what it is capable of doing in and through our anatomy.

According to Chinese Medical texts, Chi is deriven from three sources: The first -- "Prenatal Chi" is that which is transferred to offspring from parents; and is within the kidneys. The second -- "Earth Chi" is within foods which we eat; and thirdly -- "Heavenly Chi" is taken from air that we inhale. (These Chi are what fill our whole body.)

Chi also possesses multiple aspects and functions. Five major functions of the Chi maintain the body's stamina and total well-being, overall. Because it is the basis of all motion, Chi, is inseparable from it. Protecting our bodies from environment and bolstering the immune systems; Chi controls key functions of the body like digestion and how it transmutes into blood, saliva, sweat and bile.

Furthermore, Chi contains organs where they are meant to remain. In other words, Chi keeps organs from drooping, fluids where they are meant to be, and prevents loss of such components. Chi also maintains body temperature; as deceased individual's have none.

There are five types of Chi --
a. The "Organ Chi," in which every organ is synonymous yet performs separately depending on the characteristic of its Chi.
b. The "Meridian Chi," whereby Chi journeys through pathways of multiple body regions to modify and harmonize each region's activity.
c. The "Nutritive Chi," is the Chi that is related with blood. This chi maneuvers its way through the circulatory system, creating nutrients from foods.
d. The "Protective Chi," or the Yang Chi, monitors immune systems and assists in prevention of illness and disease. And finally, the
e. "Ancestral Chi," which regulates breathing and heart rate.

Due to the nature of Chi, it is difficult to comprehend its whole meaning and value; as Chi is ever-evolving, always adapting to environment and individuality. Moreso a lead or guidance concept, Chi is the "knowing energy" that has healing capabilities, and the undefined power source to instruct pathways of life's anatomical, energy resources.
