Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Practitioners

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Practitioners Through simultaneous verbalization and external stimulus, EMDR practitioners can help individuals to allow new ideas to become the focus of the next series of information processes. EMDR facilitates this sequence repetitively so that information processes and personal association can be initialized. Comprised of eight phases of treatment, EMDR starts with the practitioner taking the clients history and structuring a specific treatment plan.

What is a EMDR

EMDR is an integrative technique that combines elements of variable but effective psychotherapies to maximize treatment outcome. By incorporating psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, interpersonal, experimental, and body-centered therapies, EMDR responds to the client's individual needs by focusing on past and present experiences.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy is an innovative psychological procedure that has already treated nearly a million people. Dr. Francine Shapiro is credited as the originator and developer of EMDR as she found that eye movements seemingly decreased negative emotions associated with distressful memories. Because EMDR has a desensitizing effect, Dr. Shapiro conducted a case study, and a controlled study to test EMDR's effectiveness and found that EMDR could be a successful treatment for trauma victims.

EMDR clients find that emotional distress or traumatic memory has been eliminated or phenomenally reduced. The goal of EMDR is to comprehensively and profoundly treat effects in a brief time frame, while maintaining the stability of the patient in a balanced system. With a vast spectrum of published case reports, including treatment of trauma of post traumatic stress individuals like military veterans, have found EMDR to be one of only two or three treatments of choice for trauma victims.
