MIDWIFERY is more or less a calling, rather than just a "job." Midwifery is comprised of loving, reciprocal relationships based on mental, spiritual and physical aspects of the birthing process.
Midwifery consists of being a trained professional with explicit expertise in supporting pregnant women. By offering specialized and personalized care, midwifery is a benefical must to those who are expecting babies. Extending education, counseling and support to women and her newborn through the duration of pregnancy, labor and childbirth -- midwifery is a means to work with each woman and the woman's family to meet physical, social and emotional needs.
In general, midwifery translates to physical, psychological and social well-being of the mother through careful monitoring. It also means providing the mother with personalized education, counseling, prenatal care, hands-on assistance during labor and delivery and postpartum assistance. Midwifery promotes less chance of technological interventions. Furthermore, midwifery accommodates women who require obstetrical attention.
