Weight Loss Millions of individuals attempt weight loss programs and diets on a daily basis. Unfortunately, there is no "magic" weight loss pill that will instantaneously remove unwanted weight, however weight loss can be achieved through one, or a combination of several regimens. Diet and exercise are crucial to weight loss. There are various exercise instructors and specialists who are trained to work with individuals who wish to lose weight and maintain healthy lifestyles.

Weight loss is important, as it greatly reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke, high blood pressure, diabetes, cancer, and many other health related problems. Before going on a weight loss program, it is always wise to consult with your healthcare provider first. If you've stepped on the scale lately and are trying to figure out if you need to reduce your weight, there is a simple method of determining whether or not you need to go on a weight loss program. First and foremost, one must find his or her Body Mass Index (BMI). To determine your BMI, you multiply your weight by 705, then you divide your height (in inches) twice. A person whose BMI is 24 or less is considered ideal weight. Having a BMI of over 40 is indicative of morbid obesity.

Once one has decided to go on a weight loss program, individuals should set realistic goals for themselves. Weight loss can be attained by sticking to healthy diets, and a daily exercise routine. Whether power walking or joining an aerobic or Pilates exercise class, weight loss can only be mastered by those who maintain their motivation. Eating healthful foods from the food pyramid, and eating in moderation is a good start to a healthy weight loss program. Once you've achieved your desired weight loss, maintenance is crucial. Changing one's eating habits as opposed to "dieting" is a good beginning to a healthy way of life. Healthy weight loss promotes overall improved health, stamina, emotional and mental acuity, and further helps persons to feel better about themselves altogether.
