ANGEL PORTRAITS have been painted throughout the ages. One famous angel portrait, illustrated in "Paradise Lost," is that of Raphael descending to earth. But there are many other angel portraits as well. Popular angel portraits like that of Michael, as the Angel in the Garden of Eden in the expulsion of Adam and Eve, by Hayley; and a depiction of Uriel descending form Heaven on a sunbeam to join Gabriel, Ithuriel and Zephon in the Garden of Eden created by Richard Bently in 1688, are just two of many, classical angel portraits. In the mid 1400s, Melozzo Da Forli drew an angel portrait of Gabriel in the "Annunciation." Michelangelo Buonarroti (1475-1564) is renowned to this day for his angel portraits on the Sistine Chapel (painted from 1508-1512) in Rome.
