ASTRONOMY is the study of our universe and the objects within it. Observation of the sky telescopically gathers not only visible light but also invisible energy forms like radio waves. Astronomy is the investigation of heavenly bodies such as the Sun, planets, stars, comets and even distant galaxies. Astronomy is also the study of space structure and past and future universal evolution. Astronomy answers questions to how our Universe began, star compositions, matter, and even how massive storms the size of Earth transpire on Jupiter.
Physics, chemistry and geology are instrumental in the study of astronomy in comprehending cosmology. Elementary particles such as protone and neutrons compose our Universe; as chemistry is used in astronomy to analyze dust, gas and matter interwoven amid the stars.
Ancient scholars studied astronomy based on ideas and theories of our Universe. Observations and measurements were based on these ideas to lend understanding of why and how objects moved the way they do. During ancient times, however, scholars did not comprehend gravitation (the laws of motion). Because of this, their measurements did not reveal suffiecient detail of planetary movements. In today's modern world, technology is ever increasing the panoramic view and understanding of our Universe. Modern astronomy extends knowledge to civilization never before known.
