
A PHARMACY TECHNICIAN is a person who performs numerous tasks, including: assisting pharmacist in labeling and filling prescriptions, assisting patiens in dropping off and picking up prescriptions, entering prescriptions into a database, verification of customer receipt of accurate prescriptions, compounding oral solutions, ointments, and cream, scheduling and maintaining job functions, prepackaging bulk medications, screening calls for pharmacists,ordering medications, working with insurance companies to obtain payment and refill authorization, preparing medication inventory, preparation of Chemotherapeutic agents, compounding total parenteral nutrition solutions and large-valumes of intravenous mixtures, assiting in outpatient and inpatient dispensing, preparation of IV mixtures, and general accounting duties.
A pharmacy technician job requires a minimal of an associate of arts degree in a field of study directly related to duties of that of a pharmacy technician. Courses related are: health sciences, biological sciences, physical sciences and natural sciences.
A pharmacy technician must also complet a training course that provides a minimum of 240 hours of theoretical and practical solution. A pharmacy technician may earn anywhere from $6 - $15 per hour depending on education and experience.
