As early as 3000B.C., Physiotherapy (also known as physical therapy) has been a traditional healing art. Hippocrates wrote about physiotherapy in 460 B.C., as the Romans and many other civilizations utilized it.
Physiotherapy helps restore function, improves mobility, relieves pain and limits, or perhaps even prevents physical disabilities. Physiotherapist survey strength measurement, range of motion, balance and coordination, posture, muscle performance, respiration, and motor functionability of the patient prior to physiotherapy treatment.
Physiotherapy usually includes prescribed exercises, electrical stimulation, hot or cold compresses, ultrasound, traction and/or deep-tissue massage to relieve pain. Physiotherapy also adapts patients to using crutches, prostheses, and wheelchairs. Throughout the course of physiotherapy, patients are analyzed by progress charts. Depending on the individual's developmental rate, physiotherapy can be adjusted to meet the patient's needs.
