Eastern Philosophy

EASTERN PHILOSOPHY is derived greatly from the philosophical beliefs of Asia, with further development of Eastern philosophy transpiring mainly in India, China and Japan. Within Eastern philosophy are two belief systems: Philosophy and Religion. The distinction, however is not cut and dry as there is a very vague line between the two. In other words, Eastern Philosophy could easily be philosophy and religion - one in the same, but not nearly as distinguished as Western Philosophy.

Eastern philosophy presumes that God or existent gods are within the universe and therefore, universal products. Eastern philosophy also believes that people are an innate and piece of the universe who are inseparable. Simplified, Eastern philosophy does not agree with Western philosophy that humans are "apart" from the universe - the theory being that all things and beings comprise a "whole."

Common Eastern philosophy encompasses Taoism, which teaches "action through inaction" (or wu wei). In simpler terms - one should create subtle modifications without disrupting universal flow. Universal dualism, like the yin and the yang are incorporated into this everyday Eastern philosophy.

Confucianism is another traditional Eastern philosophical tradition. Confucianism emphasizes a system of ethics and morals that teaches strict kindness, especially to one's older family members.

Buddhism, another Eastern philosophy is based on an Indian prince known an Buddha. This particular belief system is founded on the principles of the "Four Noble Truths:" "All life is held to be suffering derived from desire, and that suffering can be eliminated through awareness. Awareness is heightened through the practice of meditation." (Quotation from Wikipedia, the Free Encyclopedia- Eastern Philosophy section) This Eastern philosophy also incorporates "karma," the 'cause and effect' between all conductions. Eastern philosophy also maintains that reincarnation is existent as all living things go on to other lifeforms.

In closing, Eastern philosophy entails a broad spectrum of systematic beliefs. Tracking modern times, Eastern philosophy has expanded its fundamental practices to nations far beyond the Eastern hemisphere. In today's age, varied cultures are becoming aware of Eastern philosophy and are actively including it in their everyday lives.
