Tai Chi / Qigong
What is TAI CHI? There are four styles: Chen, Yang, Wu and Sun. Tai Chi literally means "Supreme Ultimate." To some, Tai Chi is considered a form of magic. Tai Chi is a calming and relaxing form of martial art. It challenges your preconceptions of relationships to gravity, your physical self, your mind and other individuals. By re-examining choices, Tai Chi allows you to grow on many different levels.
According to legend, Tai Chi was founded by a hermit Taoist, Chang San-Feng, between 960 - 1368 A.D. Done in a slow-motion, meditative exercise, Tai Chi is used for relaxation, health and self-defense. Originally from China, Tai Chi has become popular in America and throughout the world because of its healing health benefits. A healthy excercise, Tai Chi has no equivilent, but as a martial art, it can be lethal. Tai Chi relieves stress and promotes the mind to reflect on natural balance. Practicing Tai Chi twice a day over a duration of time, will attain flexibility, good health and achieves mental peace.
Tai Chi's movements, shapes and breathing patterns are necessary to interact and reconcile with dynamic forces. At one time, Tai Chi's lethalness was guarded by prestigious families and was used strictly for killing. Now, the energy force is no longer used against individual enemies, but for enemies of the soul, body and mind. Transmission of energy, methodic single-weightedness, relaxation techniques and controlled breathing were developed through Tai Chi. In Tai Chi, the feet are always planted firmly on the ground. More like gestures, the whole body transforms into a hieroglyph, then successions of hieroglphys...almost like that of an orchestrated sheet of music. Tai Chi is meditation in action through symbolic gestures and motions. Through practice, Tai Chi enables appreciation and understanding of the art and promotes healing and overall well-being.
