It is difficult to believe that a Dog's milk can be a remedy. But once you have tried with good results, you wont' be able to forget it: it will stick to your memory, it will get bound to your heart with bands of steel and you will realize how safe you will feel in its company. This remedy has the most violent opposition from prejudice and ignorance, which its wonderful therapeutic powers have slowly, yet surely overcome. It was successfully used by Dioscorides, Pliny, and Sextus in ancient times, and revived in New York by Reisig, Bayard and Swan in the treatment of diphtheria. Reisig was the first to potentize it. Lac caninum is forgetful, absent-minded. Its memory is so weak it can't concentrate the mind to read or speak. It will make shopping purchases and walk away without them and make mistakes when speaking or writing, using the wrong words and missing letters out or using too many words. There is a pronounced mental state with great over-sensitivity on all levels. Lac caninum can fly into a rage with cursing and swearing from the slightest provocation. The need to learn to get their impulsiveness under control is very strong. Two impulses in particular related to aggression are sexuality and rage. Those represent sort of an abuse.
But why a person in a Lac state would use the word `abuse' instead of `disappointment'?
Lac remedies are made from animals which are mammals. The word `abuse' is strictly related to the animal kingdom and especially to mammals: they are taken from their natural environment and domesticated to adjust them to the human society. During the process of domestication animals are often hurt, maltreated, forsaken even killed. Some animals can resist to this abuse for some time but at the end all of them will break down and bend to their master or die, because the master is always stronger than the servant.
The animal then gives in at cost of his freedom. It can also happen that, at some time, they won't accept no longer the abuse and they will revolt to the master, jumping to the opposite state and becoming once again a wild animal with animal qualities. A domesticated animal has learned to keep his instincts under control but it will have a constant antagonism between the civilized behaviour and the animal instinct. The antagonism is also felt as a duality of feelings: `Am I the baby or am I the mother?' where the baby signifies hunger, sex, aggression, irresponsibility, pure instinct and the mother symbolises morality, responsibility, maturity, experience, rationality. Another strong animal component is sex. Having sexual contact with the partner not only provides a physical satisfaction but also a sense of being accepted by the partner, a feeling of warmth and security. But when the sexuality instinct goes out of control, they become lascivious, adulterous. Living this promiscuous life makes them feeling dirty, morally low and guilty.
Another common theme is that of contempt of self and the disgust towards own body. Symptoms characteristic for this state of low self-confidence or low self-appreciation are delusion of being short, diminished, despised. These three delusions represent the essence of the Lac caninum state.
A person in Lac caninum state has a great lack of confidence. His body feels ugly and he imagines that he is being insulted, compounding the feelings of worthlessness. Vermeulen, comments that it is common for the lac caninum to have had a difficult childhood and that these difficulties can give rise to a great lack of self confidence.
There are several rubrics in the delusion section that relate to this lack of confidence. Sankaran, says that the delusion often epitomises the central disturbance of the individual. There is a feeling of not being needed by anyone in the family, in the group and of being looked down. Because being despised means being treated shabbily.
Relationship and separation: separation from the mother for a short or long period or difficult childhood; emotional turmoil in the mother during lactation; separation from the partner or from friends due to change of school or country. The individual wants to be part of a group. Communication with friends in the group helps to build strong relationships. It is when the individual is considered as an essential member of the group that he starts developing his own personality and identity. But if due to some reason, the group doesn't respond then a weak personality develops and the individual feels unloved and unwanted within the group. This will increase the feeling of inadequacy and low self-confidence. But what are the reason why a person want to be part of a group in the first place? Probably because he feels forsaken at home, because there is no nurturing, happiness, because he is neglected. Due to the low self-esteem there is a strong fear of failure and of falling. This `falling down' should be interpreted.
We are human being with intelligence, rationality, sense of morality. When we do something wrong (or we think we have done something wrong) we fall down from morality and go into the animal state (or a bestial state). There is anxiety because of doubt about success, inability to persevere in anything is undertaken. Those feelings can arouse from some sort of abuse (physical or emotional) which makes think `I'm dirty', `I'm useless', `I'm worthless', `I'm inferior to others'. As a consequence, there is an obsession of being dirty and a feeling that everything is said is a lie.
At a very deep level, when adolescence or adult, there is a feeling of moral degradation.
Along with that feeling of being dirty, this brings an obsession in a form of a compulsion of washing mania ( rubrics: ` delusion he is dirty', `desire to wash the hands', `delusion all she says is a lie'). Lac caninum persons are very passionate, very lascivious. They can be quite aggressive and defensive. They have a strong hatred for the persons who are responsible for their abuse in the past. Hatred for those people who didn't allow them to be part of the group of family. This aspect intensifies the feeling of being despised. But they also have a great affection and loyalty towards those who have been kind to them, who made them feel equal.
Lac Caninum feels like they are going insane yet they are very aware of it and fearful of it. Sankaran contends that the remedy (similar to the domesticated dog) has been totally controlled and civilised so that it has to suppress its basic animal nature and can only express its controlled, civilised side. The main fear is of snakes. They may have delusions involving snakes or dreams of snakes. Lac caninum has a strong delusion of being surrounded by a myriads of snakes, running like Dott.ssa Claudia De Rosa * Omeopata Unicista, Reg. ISHom - AIO @Copyright, Claudia De Rosa, 2006 lightning up and down the skin; fear to put the feet on the floor, step on them and make them squirm and wind around her legs or to go to bed and close the eyes so that a large snake, the size of arm, would hit them in the face; wakes at night with sensation of lying on a large snake.
Symbolically, snakes represent frustrated sexual impulses or instinct that are out of control. These types of frustrations may be internalized and produce a lot of hidden aggression. This leads again to a sort of antagonism with oneself: the emotions turned against oneself , as internalized aggression.
Lac caninum may also be of great uses when a mother has lost her child during the stage when she was still breast feeding and it has become necessary to dry up the milk. There is also unconscious worries about own health, about having an incurable disease ( like a heart disease ) and will die shortly. Whatever the symptom experienced by the Lac caninum patient, there is changing sides. The sore throat will be felt first on one side, then the other. Rheumatism in the ankles will be painful on alternating sides; the headache and the ovarian pain will change sides. I have found it interesting researching the milk remedies, also due to the fact that in several of them there is an issue of some kind with milk. This may be expressed as a desire, an aggravation or an aversion.
Lac Caninum has a craving for milk, yet when they have a headache even the thought of milk will make them sick. Lac Defloratum, skimmed cows milk, has a great aversion to milk, when drinking milk will give them a sick headache. Lac Felinum, cats milk, has a craving or aversion to milk and Lac Humanum may have a desire for, an aversion to or an aggravation from milk. Lactation in fact is the identity with the mother, with love, affection, nurturing, compassion. If lactation lacks during childhood, an individual would eventually develop a Lac state.
