To My Baby Sister
by Freya Dunbar
On this day, you were born. And since that time, my life has never been the same. You were so cute and fragile But I was soon to learn That you were demanding and independent. You were the agressor, the bossy baby. But that's ok, cause I love you anyway.
You were my baby sister And I had to look out for you. But sometimes, once or twice You had to watch out for me too. Growing up wasn't always fun. With all those chores Who knew that you could stack wood?
Now on this day you are 16 You can be rude, and sometimes mean. But that's ok, I'm used to it by now. You are growing up before my eyes And lordy, lordy! What a big surprise! You do like boys after all.
It doesn't seem that long ago When you were pudgy cheeked and ready to go. You can play the piano like no one I know. Growing up wasn't always fun. We laughed, we cried Sometimes even beat each other up. But through it all, we have survived You may be another year older But you are still my baby sister.
You've gone through so many stages It's hard to keep up. We've travelled around the world Shared ice cream and so much more. We don't always get along Or see eye to eye. But through it all we've stayed strong.
You do not lack for fashion sense Though it was questionable not too long ago. Your room is filled with rodents But I guess we all need a hobby. You go through friends like underwear But never lack for companionship. You love Brad Pitt and animals too And guess what? I do too. You always said that you'd never miss me. But now isn't it ironic That you can't get enough of me. This is your birthday present A memory book from me to you Because it doesn't matter how old you get You'll still be me baby sister.
