The Dove and the Angel of Hope

The sky was filled with wonder and such a beautiful place for this lovely work of art created by God. The Dove flew so graciously and gracefully midst a sunlit sky with all her wonder, she held her head high. Her feathers were as white as newly fallen snow and her eyes sparkled blue as the sky that mirrored the mighty waters. There was nothing in heaven nor on earth that the Dove could ever desire. She was the embodiment of the great "spirit in flight" as she soared with the winds, so pure, so proud and so regal.

Then one day, she lit down upon a low tree branch and nibbled on the tasty leaves. As she readied to take pieces of this wonderful leaf to her young, a hunter came along and shot at the Dove hitting her right in the tail. The tail is the part that assists in her navigation. How will she fly with this broken tail wing? She tried to get up, but her legs were not enough to get her going. She tried to fly,but her tail was too broken. She knew she had the little ones that depended on her, so no matter what the struggle, she still kept trying to no avail. She got angry at the hunter. "How COULD you do this horrible act of violence upon me? Don't you KNOW that many depend on me? Don't you KNOW that when you hurt me, you also hurt yourself and all that is ONE? Didn't anyone teach you that we are ALL connected and that when one is hurt, we all suffer?"

The Dove's questions were not returned. The hunter turned and walked away not even caring about the brokenness that was caused. "Who will hear my cry?, asked the Dove. Who will help my brokenness? Who will care?" The Dove looked down to the ground and cried until her heart felt it would break. She had been stripped of her dignity and could not understand why. What had she done to deserve such an act of violence?

Just when her tears were so overwhelming that her heart would surely break, an angel appeared from the heavens. The beautiful angel looked upon the Dove with such love and such compassion that the love could be felt all around the whole area in which the broken bird had taken her rest. The Dove looked up at the beautiful face of this angel and quietly asked, "Who are you? Where are you from?" The angel answered, "I am the Angel of Hope" and I come to you from your divine Creator. I am here to rescue you because I have heard your cries. I see your brokenness and I have witnessed the injustice of the act of violence upon you. I have come to help you heal".

The Dove was overwhelmed with emotion as the beautiful angel assisted her along the way. It took time for the broken tail wing to mend, but each time she felt like giving up, the beautiful Angel of Hope would come and assist her to her feet, hold her up under her wings and help her to walk and learn once again to guide herself. The bird grew stronger with each passing day and one day the sun came up over the horizon and the Dove woke to the beautiful light of a new dawn; a new day and a new hope.

The lovely enchanting angel said, "It is time for you to fly again. Don't worry, I will be here every step of the way, and every time you have one single doubt that you can fly again, just remember you will always have Hope to guide you through. The Dove felt the mightiness of strength come back into her body and her spirit began to soar! She started to run and run faster and faster. She flapped her wings and soon she was lifting her legs to fly! Her tail helped her to balance and continued to guide her as she flew!

With tears in her eyes, the angel witnessed a miracle for the Dove was not only healed, but had grown twice her size! She was stronger then she had ever been! What a regal sight to see! She flew back to her children and they awaited her as always. They greeted her with love and admiration for all she endured and for the long and difficult road to healing she had undertaken. The Dove looked upon her children and with tears falling from her sparkling blue eyes she said, " I did it all for YOU my children. YOU and HOPE held me together. You are my refuge and my strength for our great Creator has given to me a precious gift. I have now the spirit of a warrior and the heart of God's love and strength. I give to YOU this gift. May you never forget that when things come along and strike you down, you always have HOPE to guide your path, to heal your heart and to grow you strong to maturity....eternally."
