Inauguration Day Jan 20, 2005 By Dulce Bell-Bulley
Dear Readers,
The year ahead is always full of potential but what about for our country? We've just started a new four-year political cycle. This cycle has its own signature and is found in the astrology of Inauguration Day. The chart for that day can tell us a great deal about the coming year for the USA. Keep in mind that no matter who was elected, the chart would read the same way.
In the Inauguration chart Chiron is at the top, close to the Sun and opposite Saturn. Ouch! The Wounded Healer next to the Presidential Sun means that the year ahead looks painful for everyone. The President is going to have a hard time, and so are the American people. This is indicated by Saturn's presence at the base of the chart in the house of the home.
Saturn is always a restrictive presence and appearing as he does in this chart, it seems likely that outspoken opposition to the current Administration will not be tolerated. Laws may become punitive, as civil liberties are restricted in the name of national security. Half the population is caught in the collective fear of retrograde Saturn in Cancer. Issues of security lie heavy on their hearts and they feel threatened by terrorists. This affects the entire population who has to live with the all-pervasive fear and general sense of restriction.
The Moon for the chart is in Gemini, the sign of the Twins, indicating that the people are restless and want information and action. They are also in two minds as to their feelings for the President. Let me guess - some of them are red and some of them are blue? This is a major theme for the year ahead. A divided nation it certainly is, and because of this difference in perception, there's a wounded President at the helm.
Continued war is a likely theme this year and it is not going away in a hurry. Mars and Pluto connect in the Inauguration chart. This is always a volatile combination and suggests the use of force and might. The Moon opposes Mars in the chart also. In an individual's chart the Moon opposed Mars suggests a contentious nature with rough carelessness with other people's feelings, money and possessions. Translate that to a country's chart and we're looking at falling further into debt while alienating others.
Practical Capricorn energy in the house of foreign relations suggests we may speak with the voice of authority to other nations. Venus and Mercury together in this sign and place suggest that the spokesperson may be a woman. Condoleezza Rice perhaps on her world tour of peace?
If Kerry had been elected he too would have had the energy of the Inauguration chart. But there are strong astrological connections between George W. Bush and the USA suggesting that there are karmic ties between the President and the country.
For one thing, George W. and the USA are both Cancers. In astrology, Cancer energy is the root of the chart. It represents our sense of place, home, emotional safety and security. As a strong Cancer, George W. Bush is very concerned with issues related to Cancerian themes. Translate that to a national scale and we have a man determined to get at the heart of America. He wants to change Social Security and is concerned with Homeland Security. Security is his theme. Cancer energy contracts when afraid and with the President's Pluto (transformation) as a powerful part of his identity, he may project his fears on to other countries. And clearly, the people are divided as to how they feel about that.
It's going to be a bumpy year folks. We'll just have to ride it out. As for the next four years I'll address them in future articles.
Regards, Dulce
