Mental Health Upgrade Now
by Judi Singleton

Upgrading your mental health can have a wonderful overall effect on your whole life. I was reading an article By Craig Thompson, The Evening Chronicle. It was all about mental health and how exercise can help your overall outlook. Good article, I enjoyed it. He states " Today marks the start of Mental Health Action Week. Craig Thompson looks at how diet and exercise can radically change our outlook on everyday life.

According to experts at the Mental Health Foundation, exercise is the best route to both a healthy mind and a healthy body.

Increasing numbers of people are being treated for common mental health problems, with the World Health Organisation predicting that, in years to come, depression will be second only to heart disease as an international health burden." You can read the entire article here. Healthy body - healthy mind

I try to at least exercise three times a week for an hour. I also have learned a few tricks when I don't have time. I do as much of a exercise video or CD as I can before I once more run out the door one more time. This works and those minutes add up. It raise my endorphin level and even though I do not have time for long workouts some days it all adds up to feeling better.

Here are some tips that I have used to just feel better mentally.

Indentify all your talents and abilities, identify your weaknesses. Tally them up and just accept that you like everyone else have strong and weak areas in your life. Then work on the weaknesses and make the best of what you have and who you are.

Accept compliments and whatever else others would give us in kindness. Many of us find it really hard to receive. In the rough times this is a biggy.

Make time for family and friends nuture your relationship with them, make a new friend there is nothing more important in the world when times are rough then having someone to share it with or when things are good for that matter. But you have to be a friend or good family member to have these realtionships be there for you when you need them. So spend some time now.

Have a regular spiritual or religous routine.

Meditate, visualize, go to church, walk in nature. Worship in your way. This will carry you through and above when the times get rough. Be grateful for what you do have.

Check your self talk if you are not as nice to yourself as you would be to your best friend it probably is time to change what you are saying to yourself.

Do something each day just for you. Even if it is a little thing like a walk in nature, a hot bubble bath.

Have a pet. People who have pets are 50% mentally healthier than people who do not have pets.

Do something for someone else and don't let them know. Giving to others always makes one feel better.

Find a group of people who are experiencing simular problems as you and share. There is strength in numbers.

Take the wonderful fullfilling adventure of learning to know yourself. Find out what you love, what your goals are, what you value and then put that to work in your life, You will not be sorry you did.
