Have You ever thought of Cleaning your Colon?

ChaChanna Simpson Until one of my sorority sisters mentioned it to me, I had never heard of Colon Hydrotherapy. I became very intrigued and set off on a quest to find out more about this process. So I figured why not bring you along for the ride? I know you're probably thinking that this is not the most attractive topic in the world, but it has got to be discussed. A lot of you twentysomethings are experiencing problems with acne, diarrhea, allergies, losing weight and more which could be attributed to a backed up colon.

Brief review. Just in case you may not know what the colon is and what it does, let me explain. The colon's (a.k.a. the large intestines) job is to store waste the body can't use. It is located at the bottom of your gastrointestinal (GI) tract, which spans from your mouth to your anus. It is six to eight feet long and about 2 inches in diameter.

What is Colon Hydrotherapy? Colon Hydrotherapy, also called Colonics or Colon Irrigation, is really like a power wash of your colon. During this hour-long session, the specialist lubricates your rectal area and then inserts a lubricated speculum (a fancy name for a tube). Next, the specialist opens the valve of the colonic machine to gently allow purified warm water into your colon. Just before the pressure gets uncomfortable, the flow is reversed and the water and waste are eliminated without you having to get up and go to the bathroom. You just lie there and let the specialist and the machine do all the work for you. If your colon is in good shape you will eventually see a flow of clear liquid flow through the tube, which means that your colon is completely clean. If your colon is not in good shape, at the end of the session, you'll still have some residue and you'll have to go back for more treatments.

Why do it? Some people think that having one bowel movement a day is good. And some don't have any for a couple of weeks. If this is you, then I'm sorry to inform you that you are suffering from chronic constipation. You're supposed to have two to three bowel movements a day, "ideally 20 minutes after you eat," says Linda Zitka, RN, ACH, CHT of Woodhaven Wellness Center. For some reason, we humans tend to ignore our natural reflexes. Overtime, the body stops alerting you when to release and in the meantime all that waste is staying packed inside you. That leads to mucous matter build up. Zitka says that if we took care of ourselves and drank the recommended amount of water, it would wash away the mucous. But we don't, so the mucous accumulates on the inside walls of the colon and becomes hardened like a plaque.

According to the Colon Therapist Network, problems arising from not having your colon cleaned are: backaches, depression, irritability, distended abdomen, insomnia, headaches, chronic fatigue, frequent food cravings, abdominal gas and prostate trouble, to name a few. If you are suffering from any of these symptoms, you can benefit from Colon Hydrotherapy. Getting your colon cleaned encourages regular bowel movements, restores pH balance, and stimulates the immune system.

I am just amazed that this can be done and really want to see if it works. As soon as I find a specialist in my area I am going to get it done and of course I will tell you about it.
