How we feel at any given time is an automatic response that we cannot control. It is a physiological response that happens within our body. There are so many factors in our lives that have contributed to the person we are today and why we react the way we do. Some of these may include past lives, childhood experiences, friendships, and love relationships. All the experiences you have ever had and all the emotions you have ever felt make up the person you look at in the mirror each day. That is why we all react differently to each situation, because of our associated feeling throughout our experiences during our lives.

Understanding and acknowledging your emotions gives you the power to see why you react in a certain way. For example if a glass gets knocked off the table and smashed, what is your reaction and how does that make you feel? Do you scream and yell? Are you feeling angry, impatient or frustrated? Do you react quietly, getting on with cleaning it up realising that you are feeling sad or disappointed about losing a sentimental gift? Do you respond with making a note on a shopping list to buy another set of glasses and feel excited and anxious to allow yourself to have something new?

Every response will be unique to you and is as a result of who you are at this point in your life. Maybe you got in trouble as a child for breaking a glass and therefore now if it happens, you react with the same anger as your mother or perhaps you are still carrying the guilt because of it. Maybe the sense of loss you feel may be associated with a certain person that is no longer in your life. Maybe receiving something new makes you feel renewed yourself, so each time an item needs replacing; it is a fabulous opportunity for you to buy a new one. Any of these responses are totally valid because there is no right or wrong when it comes to emotions, only how you feel. All of your current feelings will stem from associated emotions from previous experiences.

Knowing your emotions are an automatic response enables you to be in that emotion without trying to change it because it is impossible. This is where the power of your emotions comes in. After feeling the emotion, you have the power to react or respond in a manner that is fitting for you. So when faced with an experience, you don't have a choice in the emotion that surfaces, however you do have the choice as to how you respond to that encounter.

Let me show you in an example. Imagine your partner saying something that upsets you. After you feel your emotion surface, (which could possibly be anger or maybe fear), you then have a choice as to how you will respond to what was said. You may choose to retort with an insult or you may choose to totally ignore the whole incident. You make a choice in the moment of your response after you feel your emotion. This is what gives you the power to change your life. Each time you consciously respond to an emotion, it allows you to be control of your life, rather than feeling like your emotions control you. Being aware of your emotion and the response you give to it, is the most powerful tool you have available to you. This is how to use the power of your emotions to change your life.

If you realise that you respond in a way that is not serving you or your partners highest good, you have an opportunity to change it for something more complimentary. Or you decide you are being too submissive and it may serve as an opportunity to stand in your power and speak your truth. Awareness of your emotions is an integral ingredient that will change your life permanently and positively.
