If you were born between August 2, 1973 and May 14, 1976, you're experiencing one of the most important transits of your life, your first Saturn Return. The planet Saturn was in the sign of Cancer when you were born.
Cancer rules mother, child and home. Actually home is a symbol for protection and security. That's why your animal totem is the turtle. You're going to learn to take your home with you on your back wherever you go. When you build security from the inside out, you feel safe in the world. That's your challenge and you're up for it now.
During your life, many of you will give your tender and devoted touch to the frail elderly or to vulnerable newborns ... to those most at-risk in the human family.
Many of you are born empaths and healers. Under the spreading tree of your kindness many lost and struggling souls, old and young alike, will gather for rest and shade before continuing on their way. You will be like serene lakes in the moonlight to your friends, who will drink from your wisdom and be refreshed. You have the broad shoulders and soft breasts your friends will cry on when their lives crash against the shore and your door is always open. You, yourselves, who have been so often orphaned in this weary world will provide safe haven for all the world's lost and lonely travelers. It is because of this and for many other reasons that I'm writing these articles for you. Because you are the Earth Parents. You will have to read on to find out why Turtle is your totem animal.
Many of you will make some of the best natural parents in the world, as well. But not if you forget the part about getting married and having kids!

GENERAL INFORMATION
Saturn in Cancer - those born between 8.02.73 through 5.14.76 with a few exceptions so ... CHECK TABLES in former articles oremail me for information.
Saturn is the Great Teacher of the Zodiac. The last time I was on a campus, students had excuses for everything and teachers were buying it. One guy swore he was joining the Witness Protection Program and that's why he couldn't show up for the final.
Well, Saturn isn't buying it and particularly not from you guys. This is because one of your bigger lessons in life (especially those of you born October 28, 1973 through July 10, 1975) is to be ethical.
Saturn's here to teach us that nothing is for "nothing". There's no such thing as a free lunch. Karma balances itself out. Resistance only makes it worse.
Saturn is the planet that matures us with its transits and the Saturn Return transit is what separates people under thirty from people over thirty. You'll see in a few months what I mean. Perhaps you've been noticing some changes with your friends.
Saturn is a hard Task Master but just. Work hard on the task at hand and you'll get the reward. And you'll get to keep it, too, because you earned it. That's a Saturn secret ... you can't hold on to something you didn't earn.
The best approach with Saturn is to be respectful, even if you're not normally a respectful person. Especially if you're not normally a respectful person.
Saturn is the Great Teacher, so find out what Saturn's class is all about. Show up on time. Sit in the front row with your notebook open, pen in hand. Ask intelligent questions. Turn your homework in. You'll pass with flying colors.
Your Saturn Return will be in the sign of Cancer, so that's the topic that Saturn addresses, so to speak.
If you're reading this article and you're not right around 30 or 60, your Saturn is in another sign and other articles will be written for you.
Cancer has to do with emotions and bonding, the way families bond. Many of you have bottled up your emotions all your lives. Frankly many of you were neglected or abandoned, possibly orphaned or given up for adoption. As a result, you've learned to "stuff" your feelings and comfort yourself in other ways. One of these may be food. Obesity is going to become a major health issue within the time frame of your Saturn Return.
Your preferred mode up to this time has probably been (1) throwing yourself into work or (2) agoraphobia and other conditions, illnesses and neuroses which permit you to withdraw into a private world for protection with your shell around you.
All those with Saturn in Cancer are learning to be turtles. It's appropriate for us to crawl into our shell. Symbolically speaking, that's usually our home or in extreme cases our bedroom or even our bed. I read for a woman with Saturn in Cancer who said the only place she ever felt really safe was in her own bed with the cover's pulled up over her head!
Home is actually a symbol for security or a feeling of belonging. Those with Saturn in Cancer are learning to protect themselves so they feel safe in the world and one of the best ways to do that is to take your home with you on your back! That way wherever you go you have security.
During the months and years ahead, you'll also become more conscious about personal safety, but in intangible ways. For example, are people in your world trustworthy and caring? Are they emotionally consistent? Are they emotionally appropriate? Is the psychic atmosphere around you free of toxins?
You'll also be wondering, have people bonded with you that you don't wish to have bonds with anymore? Are there sexual partners from the past with whom you haven't been able to break the bond? Conversely, are you relying too much on the support of others emotionally and financially? If so, the universe will conspire to put you squarely on your own too feet.
Cancer is the sign that takes things the most personally. If you're not conscious, you may appropriate something collective like terrorism for your personal property, feeling anxiety and insecurity far out of proportion to your chances of ever being involved in a terrorist incident, which are roughly your same odds of getting hit by lighting or winning the lottery. . Turtles, please avoid the tendency to incorporate scary world events into your personal world.
Last but not least, those with Saturn in Cancer may wish subconsciously to prolong childhood. Cancer is the sign of the child, an adorable child about four years old.
Let me give you an example of someone who is having difficulty at thirty cutting the apron strings. Some of you have mothers like Kimberly's who won't cut them herself so you're just going to have to do it for her.
Kimberly's story shows us the mysterious powers of the subconscious mind. To learn more, pick up a copy of Joseph Murphy's The Power of the Subconscious Mind.
Kimberly developed a mysterious "dizziness" and "inability to concentrate" after she ate ... just as she's turning thirty. She had left home in the Midwest to take a magazine internship in New York City on August 25, 2001. When 911 occurred, her mother was terrified and begged her to come home. She did. She also sabotaged herself with the magazine by not finishing her program or projects. Oddly, she was doing this even before 911 and before her mom called. But 911 is when all these symptoms appeared and she cam back home. The Mayo Clinic is near where Kimberly lives. She visited there for complete diagnosis but the results were inconclusive.
She is told her condition may be the result of former surgery for a bleeding ulcer. When she was a teen she got mononucleosis and was given steroids to reduce the swelling in her throat. The side effects may have burned a hole in her stomach.
The condition keeps Kimberly from having full time work and she is becoming more dependent on her parents by the day which disturbs her because she feels guilty. I think it also disturbs her because her mother is undermining her independence and confidence terribly but she doesn't choose to acknowledge that yet. Lately her mother has been suggesting she move all the way back home, into the family home. So far Kimberly has refused!
Kimberly is adventuresome but she also has Saturn in Cancer. Cancer rules the mother as well as the child. I explained to Kimberly that her mother had separation anxiety and was projecting all of this onto the convenient, dramatic, exterior symbol of 911. It is a mother's worst nightmare that her child will go out into the world and have a terrible thing happen.
But wait a minute. The Twin Towers didn't happen to Kimberly personally. She was safe. The whole world is not full of terrorists. It is possible to be safe in the world and with Kimberly's Sagittarian South Node, I knew her intuition was excellent.
All the way out in Keepersack, Indiana, Kimberly's mother practically had a nervous breakdown and pulled her daughter back into the nest. Separation anxiety is something mother's pass along to their babies in terms of neurotic fears, upset stomach aches, approach avoidance, free floating anxiety, nervousness, ulcers, obesity and agoraphobia. These are all conditions ruled by the astrological sign Cancer.
Kimberly's mother had given Kimberly the message there was something to worry about in the world. Sometimes I call this the "Black Forest" mentality! It's an orientation to life that Kimberly has the right to refuse.
My advice to Kimberly was to get out of the hometown area in the best way she could think of for now, hopefully with another magazine job because she wanted to be a writer and had succeeded with this once before. Let's call it her aborted attempt to give birth to herself.
I told Kimberly her health would probably improve with her distance from her mother, the hometown, and ideas and attitudes that were stifling and repressive to her. I explained to Kimberly that her fears were really her mother's fears and that she could feel free to go on, carrying her home with her on her back (!), knowing that she was safe just about anywhere. Kimberly agreed, saying that her mother was "just a nervous wreck about everything".
Now let's look at the general energies of Saturn in Cancer. The group of individuals with Saturn in Cancer includes 3 groups and 2 sub groups.
1. The Chinese Lucky Turtle Group born August 2 and October 27, 1973
2. The Turtles for an Ethical Majority Group born October 28, 1973 through July 10, 1975
a. Subgroup #1 Brotherhood of the Fickle Finger Group born April 19 and August 17, 1974. These turtles are going to Turtle NeverNever Land.
b. Subgroup #2 The Brotherhood of the Middle Finger Group born October 1 and December 2, 1974. You guys are going to be standing there wondering what happened to you.
3. The Some Turtles Evolved on Islands by Themselves but Now They are Going to Swim Over and Meet Other Turtles Club born July 11 and August 28, 1975
One thing it's important to establish as soon as possible is whether or not you're stuffing your emotions. If you're not sure whether you fit this profile, here are some telltale signs:
* you were potty trained in the nursery at the hospital
* you were an over achiever in preschool
* your mother fathered you and your father mothered you but neither was around much
* you've heard of a "softer side" but you're not sure whether that's appropriate for an egg or a person
* you can be very hard on yourself while being patient and forgiving of others
* when someone points right at you and says, "Look at that gorgeous guy," you duck and turn, thinking they must mean the person behind you
* by now you've totally rescued at least one male, one female and innumerable four footed, winged or hoofed creatures
For the rest of your life, Saturn will be trying to tell you there's more to life than the material. It will encourage you to have a family of your own or become part of a family that really feels like a family to you. Many of you did not incarnate into families where the other people feel familiar to you. Some even incarnated into families where other members had been enemies from paste lives. Genetics and past lives aside, now begins the journey to find your real peeps.
The Saturn in Cancer group is divided into 3 distinct groups with two sub groups. You can tell which one you're in by looking at the dates.
1. The "Chinese Lucky Turtle" Group. Born between August 2 and October 27, 1973, you'll find less disruption in your lives than some of your pals. You can comfort them while they're facing challenges and you'll feel better, too.
2. The "Turtles". By far the majority of you were born between October 28, 1973 and July 10, 1975, so I'll spend more time developing the themes you'll be dealing with.
Some of you may be transferred in connection with jobs and marriages or may seek relocation or travel opportunities within your present framework or create a new job where you can travel, due to impending Wanderlust.
Some may marry at this time outside their race, faith or culture. If so, this will be a big "win". At this time in your life, different is good.
Others who married five or ten years earlier, may find a sort of "stranger" emerging in their partner. This is not so good. Whereas "differences" were at one time a plus, and are now for new couples, with earlier marriages, differences may now become an issue. Some relationships may end because of it. It depends on individual circumstances.
This transit is about finding your peeps. If you're beginning to think family isn't all it's cracked up to be, stop blaming yourself for failing which simply means failing to fit their expectations - and start off on a process to find "your own". Although this is essentially an inner journey, it is also most definitely in your cases an outer journey. Many of you should and will make big geographical moves under this transit.
A dramatic example of this is presented in the movie The Shipping News. Quoyne's life made no sense until he moved to Newfoundland, going to live in the land of his ancestors. He himself had never lived there before.
Some of you will actually break new ground and head for parts unknown. Some of you will come full circle back to where you started. Whichever it is, go for it and godspeed. You are very gentle earth travelers. I see your footsteps crossing the globe many times over, weaving us all closer together. Wherever you go, people feel "at home" with you.
Travel vertically as well, up and down the social strata until you find the group that comforts you, where you fit in, a place to hang your hat and call it home.
Here are some possible scenarios:
(1) Lisa, a Caucasian of Polish descent, grew up in Chicago where she met and married a Chaldean man when she was 17. He was 27. They moved to California and started a family. As her Saturn Return nears, Lisa begins to realize that her husband is really old fashioned. Although it didn't bother her before, she feels his cultural expectations are annoying and uncomfortable. She begins to realize his language skills are inadequate. She has a growing fear that he is not as intelligent as she thought when she was 17! We don't know what, if anything, she can or will do about this. It depends on the individual chart and can only be answered in a reading.
(2) Heather has been working at the local library ever since graduating from community college at 20. She has moved ahead and is happy in her position as research assistant. As the transit approaches, she meets a much younger transfer student from Holland. They fall in love, marry and begin plans to move to Holland permanently. They plan to visit Holland every summer while Heather learns Dutch and prepares for a career as a baker which is profitable in Holland and something she has really always wanted to do.
(3) Angela has been learning classical music and attending operas and Shakespearean plays in her spare time with her mother. She has an expensive wardrobe from Macy's and takes expensive cruises to Europe every summer. In order to afford these things, Angela has become more and more re-dependent on her Mother. As her Saturn Return approaches, she begins to realize she has been doing these things mostly to please her mother and that really, she is very bored with it all. She admits to herself that she'd rather wear a T and jeans than get dressed to the teeth. She decides that the one thing that has always really made her happy is working with animals. She begins a secret plan to attend Veterinarian School. In the meantime, she moves to a cheaper apt. where she can have a couple of dogs. She learns dog grooming, hangs out with dog trainers, TTouch practitioners and veterinary assistants. To her classical music, opera and cultural days, it's hasta la vista baby! She tells her mom a few little white lies while she tries to figure out how to break the news to her.
(4) Christopher moved to Dallas to escape the stifling atmosphere of Milano, a small town in central Texas where he grew up. As his Saturn Return approaches, Christopher begins to feel that he hasn't made any friends in Dallas. Well, he's made friends, but they aren't good friends. Come to think of it, these people are downright cold and superficial. The pace gets to him, too. Nobody knows you in Dallas and nobody has time to do anything but work! Christopher's high school sweetheart, Milly, is getting a divorce and emails him from Milano where she's living ... in the kind of big house you can afford in a small town. She'll get the house after the divorce but there's a lot of deferred maintenance. One reason she's divorcing her husband is because of his poor financial planning. Milly is opening a florist shop with the money she gets from the divorce. Christopher visits Milly and falls in love not only with her but with her funky old house and - with his old home town. Absence has made the heart grow fonder. He connects with his love of landscaping, saves his money, buys some gear and equipment, moves back to Milano and in with Milly. Pretty soon he's happy as a clam fixing up her big old house and feeling right at home with folks who have known him since he was a babe in arms.
Those are typical scenarios for events that are likely to happen under this transit for you. Many in this age group will also be encouraged to clean up their ethics.
Many of you have been monkeying around with the rules your whole lives long. If this shoe fits, it's likely you're in for a major course correction, so here's a little pre-Return warmup.
Red Alert for Turtles: Special note to those born between October 28, 1973 and July 10, 1975. Here are some things that could come home to roost during your Saturn Return:
* income tax avoidance
* falsification of employment credentials
* cutting corners delivering on what you promise
* stepping out on your spouse
* if you lost (or took!) something of someone else's that was important to them and haven't confessed, time to fess up
* red alert: passport and VISA matters
* sibling relations (if forced or confused, chose parents, grandparents, in-laws, aunts and uncles or own children over siblings)
* red alert: if you're in business with a sibling, expect a change of scene (and I don't mean a good one), start preparing now
* bring your car insurance up to date
* red alert: slander
* asthma, smoking, food allergies and environmental pollutants
* red alert: please don't find yourself in a generational test group regarding cell phones on the highway. It is virtually impossible to drive safely while talking on a cell. It uses two different sides of the brain which are mutually exclusive. (OK, not to the Dalai Lama maybe, but to the rest of us, yes) It's your age group that will bring this issue to a head between now and 2005. In your neck of the woods, don't let it be because of an accident you cause.
* red alert: if you've been cold or arrogant with neighbors (such as refusing to lend tools, which is your right but you don't need to be cold about it, or refusing to help them start their car in the morning for the 10th time this winter) or if you did something which could possibly be construed as harassment, such as chronic complaints about the same things over and over again or insulting their pets or kids, watch out! Those chickens will sure come home to roost. Either make sure your own yard, house, kids, pets, car, garage, roof, tree roots, side of the fence, etc., are squeaky clean or start making amends right now and become an ingratiatingly good neighbor. Believe me, you're going to need some karmic credit in the bank for this transit. It's for your sake, not their's.
* fudging academic credentials or staying in school for no good reason
* big gaps in your training or education will start to show up if there are any
* anything you've been doing for quite some time that you are beginning to realize is "wrong"
The goods news is that for many of you, there's time to clean this up. Saturn rewards any honest efforts at self improvement here. Please know that I'm not pulling these items out of thin air or the Sunday School book. They're based on the planetary energies also involved in this transit.
Subgroup #1: The Brotherhood of the Fickle Finger. Some of you will be going to Turtle NeverNever Land. If you were born between April 19 and August 17, 1974, you may experience one of those few occasions in 21st century life where there is a feeling of real fatedness. Some of you may take sudden leaps forward in evolution. This could be on the outer or inner plane. Among your group, there will be more radical changes than with the others.
It is impossible to predict the nature of these changes because the planet Pluto is involved, but many of you will be going "beyond the nevers". You'll be doing things that you "never thought you'd do".
If you're doing drugs or have an alcohol problem this is a chance in a lifetime to check yourself in somewhere and get it taken care of because rehab will really stick if you do it now. On the other hand, some of you may tragically begin these habits "for real" under this transit and the opposite will be true. Anything begun at this time that is addictive will be especially difficult to counteract..
Subgroup #2: The Brotherhood of the Middle Finger. This group might be standing there wondering what happened. If you were born between October 1 and December 2, 1974, you may feel like you have a fine sense of direction but Saturn will probably reach over and repolarize the compass point north.
Or you may feel like you're definitely "riding the wave" -- only to discover that it was not a wave at all, it was a surfacing submarine!
For this reason, I recommend waiting at least 3 months after the date of your Return to make any important life decisions. I would recommend an astrology reading around the most intense time of your Return which is July 18 through July 25, 2004.
3. The Some Men are Islands and Some Women are Too but Now I'm Going to Swim Across and Meet One Club. If you were born between July 11 and August 28, 1975, you may be beginning to feel pretty alone in the world. The truth is, you've always been just a little bit isolated, you're just starting to realize it now. You may think of this at first as a geographical problem but for you, unlike your birth mates above, it is actually a state of mind.
Some of you may be asked by circumstances beyond your control to make some pretty drastic changes in your lives. This may be extremely uncomfortable. This is the one group where "comfort" may not necessarily be the highest desired value because you are actually being encouraged to step outside your comfort zone for the rest of your life! Sometimes having a burr in your saddle is a great incentive.
Some may be introduced for the first time to the complexities of human nature and as a result, switch to careers in psychology or related fields.
There are some world class actors and actresses in this group as well.

SPECIAL ADVICE: If you were born between October 28, 1973 and July 10, 1975, the personal space around you, your aura, is highlighted. During your Saturn Return you'll have much to learn about keeping your personal space clean of negative energy. If you've been in the habit of crowding your personal space with unessential activities or with the busy-ness of catering to others and fitting into their plans, the universe will be encouraging you to clear a path for yourself.
For some of you this will mean a lung/breathing related illness such as an asthma attack, bronchitis, pneumonia or molds, which will permit you, by putting you flat on your back, to get to know yourself again! You know my message by now ... why not do it for yourself and skip the part about having to get sick?
I would especially advise this group not to use a cell phone when driving. This group has negative karma regarding cars, small machines (like a fax machine), telephones, cell phones and neighbors/neighborhood; also siblings. Mercury Retrogrades may be especially trying all through your lifetime, so please get up to date on your Retrograde Rules. [Also, if interested further, Mercury at the Crossroads.] Try to keep these things to a minimum and handle with conscious awareness.
The personal path for all born during this time period includes eliminating mental clutter from personal auras. Learn to enjoy time alone and the sound of nothing. If you will not be doing this willingly, the universe may also encourage you through an accident that leaves you time for yourself but not necessarily of your choosing.

SPECIAL ADVICE: If you were born between July 10 and August 28, 1975, your issues will include physical safety as well as personal space. Check your car (maintenance and alarm system), floors, porches, foundations, rugs, property lines, property titles and financing terms very carefully ... for the rest of your life! It is going to be a revelation to you over the next thirty years that more and more your safety depends on the people with whom you are traveling through life than you might ever have thought possible. For you more than most, their karma is your karma.
EXAMPLE: If I got in a car driven by a drunk person, you would tell me I was crazy, right? That's easy enough. At a more subtle level, which is what you're going to be learning about ... what if I plan a trip to South America with someone who is paranoid about Third World diseases and slightly xenophobic (hates strangers)? Do you think "my" trip will be enjoyable and care-free?
Take this a step further. What if I marry someone who's accident-prone or thinks it's a dog-eat-dog world. Beliefs like this are self-fulfilling prophecies. Pretty quickly all of this becomes my problem as well ... when he falls off a ladder and is out of work for 6 months it effects my careful financial planning, too; when she alienates the banker, yard man, neighbors and the kids' teacher, it's my account, yard, neighbor and kid's teacher she's alienating, too.
If life is a journey, and I travel with someone who draws flies, I get the flies, too.
