Attaining Inner Peace with Meditation
by Kevin Doberstein

The benefits of meditation can greatly help fulfill the quest of inner peace. It can bring a higher state of consciousness. A calmness of the mind and body. The practice will help you focus on the present and not on the past or future. It can open up the path of enlightenment. It is a way for someone to get in a deep inner nature or inner peace that can be lost forever from the daily stressful situations we face.

There are two basic types of meditation. Mindfulness and concentrated. Concentrated meditation is used to find the inner spirit. Mindfulness meditation is used to find inner peace. The focus of this article will be mindfulness meditation.

Mindfulness meditation is the main focus of Buddhism. It clears the mind of all the clutter that builds up with anxiety, judgement and worried thoughts. The past and the future is not important. The present is what is really important.

Here is an example: You travel down a road that you have driven in the past many times. You remember where the local law enforcement would hide to find speeders. And also where possible areas that they can be sitting waiting. So you worry and clutter your mind that the police are hiding in the weeds all the way. Did it really matter if the police are hiding along the roadway? No. Especially when your traveling the speed limit anyway. The only thing you should be doing is concentrating on the present. Which is the immediate road in front of you. Now you can apply this example to other areas of your life.

Here are some steps you can follow to get started with meditation:

1. Find yourself a quiet place where you be left alone for a few minutes.

2. Either you can sit in the traditional cross legged style or just sit in a comfortable chair.

3. Take a few deep breaths and gradually slow down the breathing and get your body into a more relaxed state.

4. Now think of a pleasant thought and dwell on it for a minute or two.

5. Try to keep the mind calm and if some thoughts from the day come visiting you try to pass them through and stay in a calm state.

6. Slowly come back out of the relaxed state.

Be sure to practice meditation each day. Eventually it will become deeper. You will become more relaxed throughout the day. You will also find yourself dealing with difficult situations more easily. You may also find yourself sleeping more deeply at night. But the main thing is that dedicated meditation will bring you inner peace. A mind of calmness. A peaceful soul.

I like to meditate in the morning. Facing the east as the sunrise shows it's beautiful colors. Concentrating just on the sunrise in the present and nothing else frees the mind of all other thoughts. It helps prepare me for a day of stressful tasks.

Much peace and happiness to you. KCDoberstein. Flute Music For The Soul
