Home Spa Treatments - Easy, Inexpensive Ways to Relax

Sara Pront Have you ever stopped in the middle of a hectic day just to think for a moment, as you feel your stress creeping up on you? We all day dream once in a while, of treating ourselves to a special indulgence. For some of us, all it would take to rid ourselves of the day to day stress is a nice hot bath or good book and a few spare moments to read a few chapters. Some dream of relaxing by a pool or having your back rubbed with oils, treating your thirsty skin to a good hydrating scrub.

We don't always have the luxury of taking off for the day to a spa or a week-end get-away. But there are ways of enjoying the luxury of a relaxing spa treatment in your own home and at very low costs. Here are a few ideas that I came up with for you to try;

1)Prepare yourself a nice hot foot bath. This will help you ease stress and tiredness while stimulating circulation in the feet. Fill a medium size basin with warm water (the basin should be big enough to fit both of your feet). The water should reach just above your ankles. If you have some scented bath salts, add about 1/2 cup of bath salts to the water. If you don't, you can use 1 tbsp of ginger powder or a few drops of essential oil. Pick up a book or a magazine, sink your feet into the warm water and relax for 10-15 minutes. You can finish off your foot treatment with a good foot cream or a gentle foot scrub.

2) If you feel like using your creativity a little, why not make your own body scrub? It's easy and fun and you will enjoy making the scrub just as much as you will using it. This will keep your mind busy, preventing thoughts of work and other stressful issues coming up, and the ready product will relax tense muscles and deeply cleanse and rejuvenate your skin. Follow these 5 easy steps to create your body scrub:

a) Find a nice jar or a bowl that you can use for the body scrub.

b) Take 1 cup of almond oil or a light olive oil and pour it in to the bowl/jar.

c) Take 1 cup of either salt or sugar and mix it with the oil.

d) Add 3 to 5 drops of essential oil (choose any fragrance that you like) , or 5 to 6 drops of the juice of a lime, lemon or orange, into the oil and salt/sugar mixture.

e) Take a shower or bath and scrub your whole body gently with your home made scrub. Enjoy!

3) Dead Sea Mud. How can I explain the uniqueness of this historic beauty treatment? It is so highly concentrated with minerals, some of which are unique to the Dead Sea. The high mineral content allows your skin to stay naturally moisturized while increasing oxygen flow to skin cells, it pulls out toxins, unclogging pores and purifying skin. Some of the minerals have a naturally relaxing effect! You can order a jar of Dead Sea Body Mud from Dead Sea Wonders. You can use the mud in the shower by rubbing it on your entire body, letting it dry for a few minutes and then rinsing it off. Or you can heat it up a little, rub it on aching muscles and joints, letting it dry for 10-15 minutes and then rinsing it off.

4) I must not leave out the lavender treatment. There are many uses for lavender. It calms the nervous system, making it a natural sedative. It also reduces stress in the body and when the body is relaxed, the mind can also relax. If you have a partner who can help you with a lavender massage, that is a much loved home spa treatment. Light a few candles to create a gentle and tranquil environment, find a comfortable place to stretch out your body and take turns to gently rub each other with lavender scented massage oil. If you prefer to unwind in your own company, fill up a bath with warm water, sprinkle a few drops of lavender oil in to your bath and you will feel the calming effect on your body and mind.

I hope you will enjoy some of these home spa treatments. It is necessary for the well being of your body and mind to sometimes just let go of the day to day stress, even if it is just for an afternoon in the comfort of your own home.
