Picking Up The Pieces
by Bonni Linn
Two nights ago I dreamed that I was in a car following someone, somehow I lost track of them and then tried to call them from my cell phone. The phone was not working, I became anxious and some guy stopped to give me a ride in a small vanlike truck. A wild pig started to chase us and tried jumping on the back but we escaped it. The man, who's name was Richard took me to a house and seemed to live like a recluse, I tried desperately to leave the house but he wouldn't let me, I became his prisoner. I noticed that my one eye seemed to become discoloured/like an eagles and the other was very blue(unlike real life). I tried using the phone again to escape but could never get them to function. Finally after what seemed like a long time, I was weakening, my mother arrived with my sister, handed me some money from my husband which I then struggled to count, I gave my mum what she needed, 50Pounds to help a cousin out of trouble and then kept the rest. I was now free to leave the house, the man who's name was Richard stood washing the dishes, I despised him but nevertheless felt it polite to kiss him goodbye on his cheek. Once outside my family were in a car, an Aunt in the front seat opened the door, looked at me and then closed it and there was a bus behind them with loads of unknown people, mainly girls, I tried getting into the car but it moved to fast and then I decided to go in the bus instead. I asked someone how long I had been there for and they replied, 11months. My husband was no where to be seen and I got the distinct feeling that he was back home in a foreign land carrying on with his life. He'd met other woman with whom he'd apparently had a child/ren and apparently could not make my emancipation? I felt really sad but determined to pick up the pieces and return to my husband. So I got in the bus and travelled home.
