In GOD We Trust ?
by Crystal Barnett

Something to Ponder

Why did the government imprint the phrase "IN GOD WE TRUST" on money? Was it to justify this 'root of all evil'?

Point of View: Each and every one of us pretty much understands that money can make or break a person... a company... a society... a civilization... a foundation... a family... a country (and it's relations with others). As much as I wish I had the time to study all the intricate details of our history I would have issues with the written truth of such histories anyway. Why, you may ask? Because, as we have all found or experienced at least once in our lifetime, not all published and written facts about history are true and 100% accurate of the actual occurrence of said event being written about. History is riddled and fumbled with skewed portrayals and opinions. From the text books in our schools to news articles and broadcasts that we see every day (albeit not on purpose in some cases, if not most). But for some reason we have been so busy putting out fires in our personal lives that we seem to have neglected the fires being started in our back yards... in our schools... in our societies... in our civilizations.... and so on. It seems to me that, as a society, we no longer question what is going on around us. We simply work our 9-5 and let the rest of life just happen on it's own. Well, I hate to say it, but without our involvement it is no wonder that certain people (whether they are officials, delegates or vigilantes) take it upon themselves to speak for that unspoken majority. Why, you may ask? Well, if you look at the bottom line it seems to always lead back to money, or the control of it. Wars usually NEVER have anything to do with value systems but rather the control of one force over another (where money is involved one way or another, whether it be in the form of a labor force, trade, or empires). Turning to fiction for a moment... having seen both movies in the "Lord of the Rings" series I can see how certain histories might have unfolded. We all know that the battles of long ago were for power and power alone. What would have changed today?

Now, moving along here, it is understandable that a government-ruled piece of paper and set of determined metals (in every country) would stand for a make-shift barter system but where did the peaceful system of trade corrupt? Was it when one man decided that he did not want to give up any of his possessions for something else he needed? Was it when a man was at his lowest low and had nothing to trade for something he needed? Was it when some guy decided that we should place more value on object than on our faith? Really, I would like to know and is why my pondering question is "Why is our faith printed on money"? It is in no way linked in any religion or religious text that I know of.
